Module 6 - Week 11

In this video presentation, our class is assigned the task of introducing a keynote speaker at an educational technology conference. My assigned area is games for learning.  I am introducing GEN Robert W. Cone at the annual Association of the United States Army Conference.

  1. Dan,

I like that you begin with the tenets of the Army learning model. This provides us with an understanding of the relevance of your topic. You note the three types of games, but then you do not go anywhere with it - you presentation seems like you would include information about three types of games, how each might be significant, or why one is better than the other. I also like that you note the educational plan by the Secretary of Education. You note the "critical core competencies" and those by the Army, but you do not elaborate. This would be an excellent text-slide! Your presentation really kept me engaged, but I was waiting for the hook at the end - what significant thing was GEN Cone going to speak about? By the way, the quote in your other video, regarding blended learning, is excellent! This would have been a great introductory piece or as a concluding piece right before you introduce your keynote speaker.

    1. Yes, I could have elaborated on the three types of games. But, I just couldn't fit it all in. At first I was worried that I wouldn't be able to come up with 5-6 minutes of presentation material. At the end, I needed more time. Thanks for the honest feedback.

  2. Great job with your video and I enjoyed working with you on this project in our group!

I especially liked your production abilities. Your video flowed very well and your editing was very good, great job with controlling your voice as well. Your content was very relevant for your subject and in the world of educational technology.
I am not sure about how to use games in my own classroom, although you have motivated me to find out how. I have used some simulation websites and my students enjoyed them.
The part of the video that was very successful was in your explanation and demonstration of the subject matter.
While watching your video, I wondered about how to increase interest and motivation in my students through gaming related to the curriculum.

  3. Dan,
I liked your introduction of your speaker and your use of Guitar Hero. You tied in the use of games with a change in teaching paradigms and you incorporated research in gaming well. Well done!

  5. Hi Dan,
Your video was very informative and flowed very smoothly! thanks for your suggession of getting mine to flow in the same manner by not having video clips following each other but adding still pictures between! One thing I found interesting about your video is the fact that it address a different set of leaners - soldiers!
