Week 5 / Module 3 (initial storyboard posting)

"At professional conferences, the keynote speaker is often introduced through the presentation of a short video that focuses the audience’s attention and provides background and insight on the speaker’s topic. This year, you have been given the honor of participating in a distance education conference by introducing the keynote speaker’s address. Your introduction may focus on any aspect of distance education that you find timely and interesting. In order to introduce the speaker, you are required to develop a 5- to 6-minute video on the distance education topic you selected."

In partial fulfillment of 5- to 6-minute video requirement, I must develop a storyboard. Storyboards are graphic organizers in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence.

Please look this SB over and offer comments, critiques, and any useful insight that you may have.

  1. Daniel - great start I like that you are providing a definition in your opening statement. You may want to consider adding a connection to research piece as well, just a thought.

  2. Dan,

I like the outline of your project so far. Is your project looking like a monologue? Are you going to have any visual references aside from the actual video? For example one can use digital still pictures in digital storytelling style and craft it into a video. I do not think this is something you would absolutely need...just throwing it out as a brainstorming idea. Good Luck.

  3. Which speaker? Which conference? Which organization will benefit? What content is being taught? For example, while speaking to you on Skype, I went into SL to a class about YA literature. They aren't there yet, so probably still on break, but there was a notecard I found about using virtual worlds to teach languages - fascinating! You have an exciting and timely topic!

  4. Thanks. I need all the help I can get. I really don't know how to proceed. But I will keep plugging and probing for answers and feedback.

  5. Hi Daniel. Yes, Lisa asks some relevant questions. This is more of a very brief outline than a storyboard. A storyboard emphasizes the visual elements and provides significant detail. For example, a storyboard for a commercial would contain a visual representation of every shot with the actual script. Be very careful about text-based slides (as in common PowerPoint presentations). Present your ideas visually, using moving images as much as possible. Try to greatly limit (or eliminate) text on the screen. You have a good topic, but you need significantly more detail. This is the time to start doing the actual video, so you should be collecting and creating visual images. Your script should already be written. Let me know if you need help.

    Tim.

  6. OK. I will skip some of the detail I was planning for the SB and concentrate on the outline. Will I actually introduce 'someone'? Do I simply make up a conference that we will be at?
